Some say that Northern is a perfect place to play cricket. Against a beautiful backdrop of open farmland just outside Crosby, Northern’s acres provide the setting for playing and watching cricket, with three pitches maintained to the highest standards by a full-time groundsman.
There are five teams involved in Liverpool Competition cricket on a Saturday, and a Sunday team playing friendly fixtures. There are also Sunday cup fixtures for the first, second and third teams, plus a strong junior cricket section.
The main pitch is used for first and second team matches, and also by Lancashire for county second team and youth representative matches.
Two more pitches, with their own changing facilities, are used for a variety of fixtures – including corporate matches.
Northern were founder members of the Liverpool Cricket Competition, and have been at the forefront of Merseyside cricket since 1859. The Liverpool Comp is the major club cricket league in Merseyside, Lancashire and the North West. The 1st team currently plays in the premier division (Liverpool and District Cricket Competition, ECB Premier League), the highest level of club cricket in the county.
In recent seasons, the 1st team has been ECB Premier League champions twice, reached the ECB National Club T20 final at Edgbaston in 2012, and won the LCB Lancashire Knockout at Old Trafford in 2013.
The cricket section organises social events during the season and in the close season, and makes the most of the excellent bar and catering facilities.
Northern holds ECB and Sport England Cricket Clubmark accreditation status. Icon sports are currently supplying our bespoke cricket clothes.
