You will likely have seen the Prime Minister’s advice today that people should avoid all unnecessary social contact due the spread of the coronavirus, and should avoid bars, pubs and clubs.

In light of this advice, Council and Committee members have met this evening to decide how the Club should respond.

All organised sporting activity has now been suspended, and we have regrettably had to decide that we cannot host any organised events or functions (with the exception of funerals) until the situation improves. Therefore all forthcoming events, including Mother’s Day lunch on Sunday are cancelled or will be postponed until the coronavirus outbreak has abated.

The squash courts, cricket nets and bowling greens will remain open and available for use by individual members.

We have decided that, for the time being, the bar will remain open to members, with restricted hours (5pm-10pm daily). We will rely on members to use their own discretion and to follow the public health advice on social contact and self-isolation, particularly those who are in vulnerable groups or have particular medical conditions.

This decision will be reviewed on a daily basis, and we will keep a close eye on any further government or Public Health advice.

These are challenging times for us all, and likely to become more so, and I trust we can rely on the support of members at this time. The Northern Club has survived many turbulent times in the past, and we intend to come through this present challenge.

Please stay safe and well.

Best wishes
