hockey at the northern
hockey
A supportive message to all our members from your hockey committee during challenging COVID times
If you’re new to hockey, a returning player or want to get involved in a competitive team – the Northern Club is for you…
With a secure floodlit hockey Astroturf pitch that has an undercover viewing area, the club caters for hockey at all levels and all ages.
Our values are focussed on being inclusive, social and one big hockey family! We have a strong junior section, ranging from ages 7 to 14, and there is a positive clear pathway for juniors to progress to senior teams.
If you’re inspired by the GB women’s Olympic Gold to give hockey a try – or an experienced player looking for a highly competitive team environment – the Northern Club is for you…
We have some sort of hockey sessions going on nearly all year round which both Northern club members and non-members can get involved with:
Training for juniors is Tuesdays 7.00-8.00pm (7-14s).
All abilities are welcome. All our sessions are run by qualified and DBS checked coaches, with a focus on England Hockey Golden Thread approaches (including a big focus on fun!). We have sticks available to borrow but we recommend the wearing of shin pads, gum-shield and trainers with good grip/astro trainers but not studded trainers. Cost: All juniors under 14 get free club membership – £3 per session. We also offer payment packages which include a full playing/training kit.
Regular junior tournaments:
There is no formal local junior league at the moment but once a month we try to arrange 7-aside fixtures with other clubs in the area, which are always great events.
Senior training is Tuesdays 7:30pm – 9.00pm for men and Thursdays 6:30pm – 8.00pm for ladies.
All abilities – we are always keen to see new faces and you’ll be made very welcome! Cost: No cost to members and none members.
Senior League fixtures (14 +)
These games are played mostly on Saturdays between September-April. Cost: Subs are £3-5 per games which includes after match food. To play league hockey you are required to be a club member. See club membership costs for a guide. Click the link for more information on leagues we play in and fixtures
Summer League
We are proud to host a mixed 7-aside age 13+ Summer league each year, which we encourage local clubs to enter if you want to enjoy some informal and social hockey. This is a great way to support our juniors to transition to senior games ready for their first league season!
Back to Hockey and Family Sessions
Each Summer we offer informal opportunities to come and give the sport or go, or to ease yourself back in to the sport if you’re a returning player: Cost: Free
