Where did it all start!? Coached by Matt Gee & Andrew Sinker, the Ninjas began their journey in the Spring of 2019, with a fine mixture of cricketers wives, girlfriends, daughters, and friends making up the squad.
After a series of successful afternoon’ of Prosecco Cricket, our ladies section is thriving, with between 20-30 ladies playing a combination of light hearted festival ‘Soft ball‘ and slightly more competitive League Soft Ball.
Our cricketing standard is varied, but there are two things that remain fixed – Fun & Laughter, regardless of if you are part of a Festival or League Team…Our ladies don’t take themselves too seriously – They throw themselves into it, and have a giggle along the way! This is what soft ball cricket is all about.
In our first season of League Soft Ball, we finished joint top of the league, missing out only to Net Run Rate! Going into the 2020 season, we will look to build on our success by fielding 2 League teams into the Liverpool & District Cricket Women’s Competition.
The Ninja’s rise in 2019 has been pivotal in The Northern Club being awarded the Lancashire Foundation Club of the Year, and this is just the beginning of what will be a big chapter in the clubs illustrious history.
2020 will see the start of the next generation in Girls Cricket at the Norther Club. We have formed our first under 11 Softball team, the Northern Samurai – For information on how to get involved, register your daughters interest, here.
In order to sustain and build on the success of Women & Girls Cricket at the Northern Club, we need structure. We held our first AGM in September 2019 and elected roles for the 2020 season. Lets meet the committee:
Mother of 2, Jo has a wealth of experience in the woman’s game. Not only having her young boys play for the clubs senior teams, her Husband, Ali is also a master stroke-player for the 3rd team. Jo has a great passion for the game, and will be instrumental on moving Women & Girls cricket on at The Northern Club.
Erin ‘Captain Sassy’ Donagh has been elected to drive the Ninja’s forward during the 2020 season. Former University Water Polo captain, Erin’ captaincy attributes are second to none, and her drive to improve the Ninjas is infectious. A complete all-rounder, Erin will no doubt lead by example.
Fitness ‘freak’ Nic, is the Ninja’s (un)official personal trainer! Bowling with the electric burst of Katherine Brunt, Nic is a great asset with the ball, as well as being a great mid-order pinch hitter (effective when not hitting it straight to the fielders!). A natural leader and organiser, Nic will deputise and support Erin when required.
Little Miss Organised herself…Wife of Women & Girls coach, Matt. Lori is also a budding Ninja who has the ability to organise the things we don’t see, which will be paramount to the success of the Ninja’s – Lori will support both Captain and Chairperson with competition & training arrangements, amongst many other things.
Freakishly competitive Jo is a chartered accountant by trade, and a Nottingham University Alumni – We are led to believe Jo played some cricket in between drinking and counting things during her time in Nottingham. We live in hope that her past endeavours will mean not only will Jo score runs and get wickets for the Ninja’s, but she will also be able to find us some money!
We will be pushing for lots of little Ninja’s to join us for next season, and will be running extra training for youngsters who would like to have a go at Soft Ball – We have 7 of our Ninja’s taking their Level 1 ECB qualification this winter, which we hope will encourage young Ninja’s join in the fun!
We are working on finalising the dates for Winter training, which we hope will be mid-October, and will keep the site and social media updated as and when we have more information.
