The Northern Club was founded as a cricket club in 1859, and cricket remains the centrepiece of summer sport at our club. In our long history, on a sporting level the club has rarely been as strong as it is now. Perennial contenders in one of the country’s strongest ECB Premier League competitions here in Merseyside and three times champions in recent times, the Northern Club won the Lancashire Cup in 2023 and reached the final of both ECB National 50 over and T20 competitions in 2024, emerging as National T20 champions for the first time. As reigning champions of England we will make our debut in the European Cricket League in February 2025.
This strength at the top of our club is built on generations of hard work and dedication and leadership, and the club benefits from our strength in depth built on the characteristics of our wonderful surroundings.
Some say that Northern is a perfect place to play cricket. Against a beautiful backdrop of open farmland just outside Crosby, Northern’s acres provide the setting for playing and watching cricket, with three pitches maintained to the highest standards by a full-time groundsman.
Having three decent pitches allows us to play five senior teams in Liverpool Competition cricket on a Saturday. Our 5th team provides an incubator for up-and-coming youngsters to take their initial steps into senior cricket, benefiting from the experience of older hands before progressing through the team pyramid.
There are also Sunday cup fixtures for the first, second and third teams, plus a strong junior cricket section. We also run the hugely popular “Friday Night Cricket Smash” for kids.
The Northern Club were the 2019 Lancashire Cricket Foundation’ Club of the year. Lancashire Foundation works across the North West to develop and deliver a range of projects, programmes and events designed to engage, excite, inspire and improve individuals and communities through cricket, with the aim of getting more people involved in the game.
The main pitch is used for first and second team matches, and also by Lancashire for county second team and youth representative matches. The strength of our junior section has resulted in multiple league and cup titles across the region, as well as providing representative cricketers at inter-league, Lancashire and North of England levels.
Two more pitches, with their own changing facilities, are used for a variety of fixtures – including corporate matches.
Northern are founder members of the Liverpool Cricket Competition, and have been at the forefront of Merseyside cricket since 1859. Along with Liverpool and Huyton, The Northern was a founder member of Lancashire County Cricket Club in 1864.
The “Liverpool Comp” is the major club cricket league in Merseyside, Lancashire and the North West. The 1st team currently plays in the premier division (Liverpool and District Cricket Competition, ECB Premier League), the highest level of club cricket in the county.

We have a thriving Womens & Girls section, who regularly train and compete in the Liverpool & District Cricket Competition in various formats of the game. For newer members, we offer an opportunity to train and compete in the softball cricket league. We also compete in various hardball league matches, playing Super 8s and T20 games.
Our growing girls section play both softball and hardball matches at various age groups. As at the end of our 2024 Season, we have 40 girls regularly playing cricket from U9s upwards.” In the 2024 Season our U13 Girls team made history in competing and winning the inaugural Girls U13s League title.
Our vision is to use the success of our Northern Ladies to inspire more girls to join our already thriving junior section, and inspire them to take up both softball & hardball (u11). As of the end of 2021, we have a strong 20 girls from u9 to u13.
Here at the Northern Club we believe that it is out responsibility to all players and parents to provide a pathway to success, and it is The Northern Way that will support our vision moving forward. Download a copy of The Northern Way, above.
The cricket section organises social events during the season and in the close season, and makes the most of the excellent bar and catering facilities.
Northern holds ECB and Sport England Cricket Clubmark accreditation status. KitKing are currently supplying our bespoke cricket clothes.
